About
A video platform, built in the open about its limits.
Playback is a reference build of a video platform — the full upload→watch loop, a Studio that diagnoses instead of flatters, and a Rewind that's a mirror instead of a montage. It exists to show what a faithfully-built video company looks like end to end.
What we believe
Three things, and they're all versions of the same thing:
- The loop is the product. Upload, watch, engage, grow. Everything else is in service of that circle closing.
- Honesty beats impressiveness. We'd rather tell you a feature's boundary than draw a fake button inside it. Plays, not audited views. Recency-and-popularity, not black-box AI.
- Creators are stakeholders. Fan-funding splits 70/30 in their favor, and we publish it.
What we don't do
No transcoding — single-rendition files, one sprite sheet per video. No recommendation ML at scale — an honest heuristic instead. No moderation at scale — owner-side tools and report buttons. No ad market — so “monetization” here means fans, not advertisers. The brand's real moat is its audience, and network effects don't transfer; the mechanics do, and those are what this build carries.
The archetype transfers the method — packaging discipline, retention analytics, recap rituals, fan-funding splits. It can't transfer the audience, and it doesn't pretend to.
